The division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology specialises in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease of the digestive tract and liver. The Whipple Procedure, known as a a pancreaticoduodenectomy, is performed to treat the following conditions:

The Whipple removes and reconstructs a large part of the gastrointestinal tract and is a difficult and complex operation.

If a tumor is in the head of the pancreas, has not spread to other areas of the body and can be removed (resected) surgically.
