Whipple's Procedure (Pancreaticoduodenectomy) in India

A Whipple's procedure also known as Pancreaticoduodenectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat pancreatic cancer. It is major surgery that involves removing the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum), the gall bladder and the bile duct. The remaining organs are then reconnected to allow a normal digestive process following surgery.

Whipple's operation may also be used to treat pancreatic cysts, Pancreatitis, Cancers of the duodenum and bile duct, and neuroendocrine rumors among other conditions. It is a complicated procedure that could lead to complications like digestive issues, diabetes, bowel leakage, bleeding, infection, weight loss and others.

Whipple surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, and the total procedure time can range from four to twelve hours, depending on the complexity of the surgical process. A full recovery could take four to six weeks depending on the severity of complications and the patient's clinical condition.
