Hip replacement surgery is a surgical procedure performed to replace a damaged hip joint with an artificial implant. Hip replacement procedure for people who have severe hip pain and disability due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or avascular necrosis of the hip joint.
During the procedure, the surgeon will make one or two small incisions typically 2-4 inches in length, and then use specialised instruments to access the hip joint and remove the damaged bone and cartilage. After preparing the artificial joint, the surgeon will insert the implant and secure it in place.
A minimally invasive approach to hip replacement surgery is highly beneficial to the patients, as it improves their quality of life and has shorter hospital stays and recovery times. But since it is a major surgery, it also comes with complications like blood clotting , infection, and nerve damage.
