Limb sarcoma is a type of cancer that affects the bone and soft tissue of the limbs, such as the arms or legs. Limb soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare, but often lethal tumours. Surgery is often used as a treatment option for limb sarcoma, particularly if the tumor is localized and has not spread to other parts of the body.
The main goal of surgery for limb sarcoma is to remove as much of the cancerous tissue as possible while preserving the function and mobility of the affected limb. The operation may involve removing the tumor along with a portion of surrounding healthy tissue as well as any near by lymph nodes that may be affected.
After surgery, Physical therapy and rehabilitation is recommended to help the patient regain strength and mobility in the affected limb. Pain management and wound care are also important aspects of the recovery process.
