Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction is a plastic surgery used to remove excessive fat deposited between the muscle and the skin. It involves breaking a part of the fat cells and removing them through various suction techniques.

How is Liposuction done?

Steps to take before the surgery:

Doctors will ensure you are in a good health to undergo the surgery. The doctor will check your complete medical history and will do a physical examination. You might be asked to avoid certain medications before the surgery and your doctor may also prescribe a new diet plan and a few medications.

What happens during the surgery?

The surgery is performed under anaesthesia. Small incisions are then made to access the fat. A suction device is then inserted through the incisions and the fat between the muscles and the skin is removed. Suction devices vary, depending upon the type of technique being used. In the traditional form of liposuction, a small tube called a cannula is inserted through the incisions. The cannula is attached to a suction pump, which draws out the excess fat. In more advanced techniques of liposuction, either a fluid-like substance is injected or ultrasonic waves/laser is used to break and remove the fat.

After the procedure

Drink adequate amount of fluids after the surgery. The patient can go back to normal routine in a week. However, the doctor may ask the patient to avoid strenuous activities for some time.

What are the benefits and risks of Liposuction procedure?

Benefits
Liposuction is very effective in getting rid of stubborn excess fat that won’t go away with other weight-reducing methods such as dieting or exercising. It sculpts body tissues and helps in achieving a toned and smoothened look. Though it does not treat any disorder, it is still a great way for both and men to achieve a lean and slimmer body.

Risks
The risks associated with liposuction include swelling, infection around the wounds, a reaction to the anaesthesia, and burns from the laser or ultrasound waves.

Limitations
Liposuction is not an absolute clinical treatment and has its limitations. It does not tighten the skin or loosens up hanging fat, nor does it remove stretch marks or any scars from the body. Liposuction does not remove cellulite pushing out against the skin, but only reduces its effect. Liposuction is no substitute for exercise.
