Limb Lengthening or Leg Lengthening Surgery is performed to repair the broken bone as well as the ligaments, blood vessels, nerves and soft tissues that surround and support it. The Ilizarov apparatus is an external device or external fixator (a series of metal rings joined by metal struts that surround the outside limb) used in orthopedic surgery to stretch or reshape the lamb bones to save a leg that would have been amputated otherwise due to open bone fractures or in situations of infected nonunions of bones that are not amenable to other procedures.
After surgery, recovery takes roughly 3 months . To hasten the healing process, the doctor will prescribe medications and vitamin supplements . After six months of full recovery, the Ilizarov fixator is removed.
If the patient is very affordable, internal lengthening can be done with a magnetic device which is excellent for femoral lengthening. But stay will be 2 months. No second surgery will be needed.
