In Delhi, a recipient must have a blood group compatible kidney donor from their family in order to receive a kidney transplant (donor has to be between 18 to 65-70 yrs). The relationship will be confirmed through HLA/DNA testing of the donor and recipient, as required by our country's human transplant act. This act forbids the sale of organs. A blood group incompatible transplant (with a different blood group) is also possible these days. However, in this type of transplant, antibodies against the donor blood group must be removed from the patient via plasmapheresis/immunoadsorption. As a result, this type of transplant is more expensive than a transplant in the same blood group. Both the donor and the recipient will have to go through extensive testing, which could take 7-15 days. (Depending on the findings of the investigations), prior to transplantation. Transplantation can take place if both the recipient and donor are found to be healthy after these tests and approval from the authorization committee. All proofs of certificates and documents of the relationship between the donor and the recipient will be certified by the respective embassy in Delhi.

Please send us donor reports for our transplant team to review.
