Hemiglossectomy with selective neck dissection surgery for Neck Cancer in India

Head & Neck cancers are a broad category of cancers that occur in the head and neck region. Neck cancers is the formation of a cancerous tumour in the tissues of the neck, which can arise in any area of the neck, including the larynx (voice box), thyroid gland, salivary glands, or lymph nodes.

Hemiglossectomy with selective neck dissection is a surgical procedure that is performed to treat cancer of the neck, specifically in the area of the tongue and neck lymph nodes.

In a hemiglossectomy , half of the tongue is removed , along with any affected tissue. This is done to eliminate any cancerous cells in the affected area. The remaining part of the tongue is then reattached to the floor of the mouth. In a selective neck dissection only the affected lymph nodes in the neck are removed . This is done to prevent the spread of cancer to other parts of the body and to preserve the function of the surrounding healthy tissues.

The recovery process can be lengthy and may involve several weeks or months of rehabilitation to regain normal speech and eating functions.
