Blockages prevent your heart from getting oxygen and important nutrients. If you are having a heart attack, coronary angiography can help your doctors plan your treatment. After Coronary angiography, your doctor will remove the catheter, possibly use a closure device to close the blood vessel, and close and bandage the opening on your arm, groin, or neck. You will stay in the hospital for a few hours or overnight.
Angioplasty is a medical procedure to open blood flow in coronary arteries that have become narrow or blocked by atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition in which a material called Plaque is made of cholesterol, calcium, and other substances in your blood. Over time, it can narrow your arteries or fully block them.
When atherosclerosis affects the coronary arteries, the condition is called coronary artery disease (CAD). Angioplasty widens the blocked part of the artery so more blood can get through. Angioplasty is a common medical procedure.
