A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells inside the brain or skull; some are benign (noncancerous) others malignant (cancerous). When benign or malignant tumors grow, they can cause the pressure inside your skull to increase. This can cause brain damage, and it can be life threatening.

Surgery is one of the main treatments for brain tumor. Surgery (If safe) is generally the first treatment recommendation. This will rapidly reduce pressure in the brain. A craniotomy is most common type of operation for removal of a brain tumor. A neurosurgeon performs a craniotomy to open the skull and remove the tumor. The goal of brain tumor surgery is to remove as much of the tumor as possible without damaging the surrounding brain tissue. If it is not possible to remove the entire tumor, you may need further treatment with Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy.
