Autologous bone marrow transplantation treatment is started by the doctor drawing the patients own stem cells from the bone marrow or peripheral blood. These cells are kept until they are required for the transplant. The malignant cells are subsequently eradicated from the patients using high dose chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The doctor will then administer the stem cells that were preserved through a vein. The length of recovery varies from patient to patient depending on the cancer severity and the type of treatment.

Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant ( High dose chemotherapy + autologous stem cell rescue) is recommended to treat where we need to give high dose of chemotherapy to treat underlying disease following which autologous harvested bone marrow is given as rescue. The Indication includes:

. It can also be used to treat various autoimmune diseases the commonest indication being multiple sclerosis.
