Ms. Mokhira Karimova, a 24 yrs old from Uzbekistan was suffering from severe pain in both hips since childhood. She faced acute difficulty in walking , severe stiffness, deformity and she was constrained to very limited walking. She was diagnosed with development dysplasia of both hips with severe shortening and deformed hip joints plus several malformed and missing elements. It was a particularly challenging case of hip joints not properly formed in childhood muscles and soft tissues contracted and atrophic. On presentation of patient to FMRI the patient underwent multiple surgeries under the guidance of Dr. Jayant Arora, Director & Unit Head, Fortis Bone and Joint institute, Gurugram. The surgeries included- creating entirely new hip sockets (acetabulum). Restoring joint position by moving the thigh bones (Femur) closer to normal position and prosthetic joint replacement.
The patient recovered well from both surgeries and was able to move around in a wheel chair initially. Intensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation were started in the post-operative period and she returned to Uzbekistan after 2-3 weeks .
At present , she is doing well & is able to go about her daily activities without any resistance.
