A doctor by profession (M.S. Orthopedics) and a visionary entrepreneur, Dr. Vikram I. Shah is the Founder, Chairman & Managing Director of Shalby Hospitals, headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
Back in the nineties, Dr. Shah realized that there was a dire need to bridge India’s orthopedic treatment gap by making joint replacement and related surgeries easily accessible and affordable to all. With this vision in mind, he acquired professional qualifications- A O Basic from London (UK), F.A.O.A.A. from Switzerland, and F.A. S. I.F from Germany, and returned to India in 1993 to bring international orthopedic expertise to his fellow citizens.
In 1994, Dr. Shah started his own medical center with six beds, one operation theatre, and a small staff in a low-rise building with their residence upstairs. From this humble beginning, his vision expanded, and today, he owns and manages Shalby Hospitals, a chain of 15 hospitals present in 12 Indian cities across 7 states with an aggregate bed capacity of over 2000 beds.
Dr. Shah’s journey to gift mobility to senior citizens of his country has been unstoppable since the day he returned to India. In 2008, he created a world record by performing 3000 joint replacement surgeries. . After a brilliant academic career in school, Dr Vikram secured admission to Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College [B J Medical College] in Ahmedabad. The college was originally founded as Ahmedabad Medical School in 1871.
. After gaining his masters in orthopaedic surgery in 1989 he decided to take advanced training in joint replacement surgery. He worked and trained from 1990 to 1992 with Mr A G Hayes and Mr T U Menon at Ormskirk & Wrightington Hospital, in the United Kingdom. Later he took extensive training in Switzerland and Germany as well.
. Later from 1992 to 1993 he did a fellowship with Dr Brice Brockin at Shelby Medical Centre, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. That stint with Shelby was to have a major influence on him. A few years later when he founded his first hospital, he named it Shalby Orthopaedic Hospital and Research Centre, Ahmedabad.

. OS Needle: Developed the “OS Needle” which can easily pass through both soft tissue and bone. Before the invention of the OS Needle, surgeons had to use complicated soft tissue procedures in which the failure rate was high.

5. Medical Visa Assistance: Once the patient is satisfied with the recommended treatment and hospital and has finalised their plans to visit India, we will assist them in obtaining a medical visa. The patient must apply for the visa on his or her own at the High Commission of India (Indian embassy) in their home country. We provide the patient with an invitation letter from the appropriate hospital, which is required for submitting their visa application. In addition, our team is trained to answer any questions the patient may have about medical visas and medical attendant visas.
6. Treatment Program: When seeing a doctor, extra contact information for the wardroom is provided.
7. Personal case manager: Once the patient arrives in the designated country for treatment, he or she is completely under our care. To handle any cases involving hospital/doctor negligence or malpractice against patients. We will also be responsible for the accommodation and stay of the members accompanying the patient.
