Dr. Tapas Raychaudhury top Cardiac Surgeon in Kolkata. Dr Tapas Raychaudhury graduated from Calcutta Medical College in 1974. There after he was trained in UK and Australia for 12 years. Dr. Tapas Raychaudhury is the first heart surgeon in Kolkata to perform the first 75 consecutive multi-vessel Bypass surgery between 1984 and '86. He then built B.M. Birla Heart Hospital as its first Project Director. In February 1996 he performed the first Beating Heart Bypass surgery in Eastern India and in the same year he performed the first 'Mini-Bypass Surgery' (MIDCAB) of Kolkata through a small 4 inch cut in the left side of the chest. From 2002 onwards, this pioneer bypass surgeon, along with his team members performed over 8,000 Bypass surgeries for low and middle income group at an affordable mean cost of only Rs 65,000 with 99% success rate in a Charitable Hospital in Salt Lake. Dr. Raychaudhury, who has more than 100 national and international scientific publications and presentations, is a past President of the Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of West Bengal. In addition he has written the chapter of 'Heart surgery' in the most popular text book of surgery in India by Dr. Asita Lal Som . He and his team have already performed over 2500 state of the art LIMA: RIMA Bypass surgeries at Woodlands as a pilot project, with an astoundingsuccess rate of 99.8%, a feat which is unmatched by any new heart centre in India.
